Real Results

Inaccurate Overtime

While auditing the billings of a cleaning services company, we identified hundreds of overtime hours billed before the appropriate number of straight hours had been worked. The documentation confirming that these overtime billings were erroneous was not included in the vendor’s standard invoice packet, which only provided the total number of straight time and overtime hours billed.

The Real Results: A recovery of $180,000 and an amendment to future contracts.

Unapproved Charges

Vendors providing project-based billings often assign an annual budget for all planned charge categories to the customer. In a bill to our client, a real estate management provider with $100 million in annual billings identified discretionary employee bonuses in the labor burden category. There was no information on bonus eligibility, and these charges were not listed in the contract.

The Real Results: We identified that our customer was overbilled $1.2 million for these bonuses.

Complicated Billing Structure

In a contract compliance audit, we found that a supplier of temporary labor consistently exceeded contracted markup percentages for our client. Multiple markups were defined based on the length of a temporary employee’s service contract, but the vendor applied the highest potential markup across all service durations, contrary to the agreed terms with our client.

The Real Results: The vendor refunded $88,000 of overbilled markups to our client.
